It is with massive apologies that l bring this wonderful post to you late in the day, no internet left me waiting for a neighbours return from work. Better late than not at all l bring you 'Forfeit' from excellent author Zara Stonely:
Hi Gemma, Thank you so much for having me here. This is the first blog spot of my
tour and I’m so pleased it’s in such a great place!
Having read a bit about you, I think we had similar beginnings in writing erotic
romance. I’ve always devoured all kinds of books, but when I seriously started
writing it was contemporary romance. I soon realised though, that I enjoyed writing
the sexy, naughtier bits. And it was a competition to write an erotic novel that actually
got me writing in earnest, and once I did I found I loved it and the words just flowed!
Which got me wondering why…
‘Forfeit’ almost wrote itself once I delved a little deeper into that ‘why’. For me
personally, in a relationship, I need plenty of lust, as well as love, so it naturally
follows that for me a love story can’t just be about the emotional side, it has to get
physical to be real!
Lust in a relationship can’t just be the kind of instant chemistry that fizzles out after a
few dates and turns into a brother-sister relationship. I want to feel secure and love the
man I’m with, but I don’t want a relationship that either person takes for granted, that
just drifts into familiarity, that gets boring and predictable….
If you want lust, and love, then you’ve got to work at it. And working at it includes
opening yourself up and trusting the other person, telling them all about your deepest
darkest desires, sharing everything… and of course not just being prepared to share
yourself, but wanting to learn about what they want. Delving deeper into their
naughty side and being prepared to experiment!
Now everyone has their own boundaries, their own ideas of right and wrong and what
they are prepared to do – and I’m not suggesting that these should be crossed. But I do
think we should listen, really learn about our partners… and it’s only then that we’ll
know if we can stick together, if the lust and love can survive.
Forfeit is all about a great, normally confident girl, Cat, who’s been knocked back a
few times, up to the point where she wonders if she can trust a guy again, if it’s worth
being herself or whether she should just let the world see the edited version. And it’s
about a guy Brent, who uncovers a bit of the real Cat and finds he can’t resist her.
He’s determined to show her that the real Cat should be let loose…so he devises a
plan! Of course, it nearly all goes wrong because at the end of the day it’s all about
trust, and everyone has secrets, and when those secrets are uncovered it can lead to
trouble, to misunderstandings, to a breakdown of trust…
Excerpt
Falling in lust with Jamie had been bad enough, but to shag Brent on the rebound
had been plain fucking crazy stupid. Experienced, street-wise Brent who’d known exactly
which words to whisper, exactly how to touch her, exactly how to make her beg and
scream in a way good girls shouldn’t. And he’d left her feeling like he’d uncovered a
deep down part of her that should have stayed hidden.
And then he’d walked. Proved she was the slut Jamie had told her she was;
nothing but a fuck buddy. Jamie had said he felt like he didn’t know her at all. And after
her night with the boss boy she felt she didn’t either. She scared herself.
She had thought she loved Jamie, thought he loved her. But love, it seemed, only
extended to shared macaroni and the missionary position, and when she’d offered to kiss
more than his mouth his hard-on had disappeared quicker than a rat down a drainpipe. He
wanted a wife, not a whore, he said.
More like a bloody mother.
Which definitely wasn’t what Brent wanted; Brent wanted dirty sex. Out-and-out
dirty; which had shocked her, and excited her, repeatedly. And she wasn’t sure which was
the worst.
Blurb…
Cat’s life is falling apart – her boyfriend’s dumped her, she’s lost her home and she’s
about to quit her job. Her boss, Brent, has a solution: become his wife for a year, to
help him land a big promotion. But Cat’s had a taste of Brent before, and she knows
he’s a bad boy who loves women and leaves them. So she agrees to marry him, but
tells him there’s to be no sex. He adds his own condition: if she as much as talks
to another man in that time, she must pay, by acting out 12 of Brent’s kinkiest sex
fantasies. When she breaks the rule, the forfeit is on: but opening up and letting Brent
into her heart, as well as her bed, could be the most dangerous game of all …
